Trader Vic's sails into the South Bay
Palo Alto now has its own Trader Vic's which opened last weekend in a
splashy new venue adjoining Dinah's Garden Hotel.
The airy and spacious tiki art-filled building, decorated in Pacific Island
colors, fabrics and woods, is the first branch of the Emeryville-based
restaurant, which includes a large bar and lounge features a voluminous menu
of traditional Trader Vic's favorites, with a few twists.
Starters range from golden fried prawns and beef cho-cho on bamboo skewers
to the cosmo salad of artichoke, celery and mushrooms in a mustard cream
dressing.
Entrees include the signature Chinatown duck, an Asian-inspired pot au feu, and
four varieties of Calcutta curries.
Free-range chicken, salmon, Indonesian rack of lamb, Chinese ribs and
several other dishes are smoked in a wood-fired oven that dates back more
than 2,000 years to the Han dynasty.

Trader Vic's sails into the South Bay
Info gladly given ...
Big Party in Palo Alto: The new Trader Vic's on the bosky grounds of
Dinah's Garden Hotel opened over the weekend. Was supposed to have been a
very soft opening. There weren't even any signs up. But the news hit the
Big Game and in came the Cardinal and the Cal types, clamoring for Mai
Tais, Fog-Cutters and all manner of healing waters. This Trader Vic's has
been three years in the planning. Well worth the wait...
